M3 AT ASSEMBLE!

HEY DO YOU HAVE A KID?
ARE YOU A KID?
LIKE MAKING THINGS?
COME TO M3 at Assemble in Garfield PA!

"Each week, a different artist or technologist will introduce a material, show students how they use the material, and lead them through a project. M3 classes will highlight Metal, Paper, Fabric, Found Materials, Electronics and Paint. Students will explore the properties of the materials with the instructors—How does it bend? How can you attach it to another material? What can I make with this?—before planning their own project. At the end of the class, children will have a take-home creation to share with the group.

Materials, Media and Me is Assemble’s newest program that uses an educational approach known as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). This way to think about learning explores the similar ways that scientists, makers and artists approach projects. “As educators, we plan and facilitate activities that highlight overlaps between these seemingly unrelated academic disciplines,” explains board member and educator Ashley Andrykovitch. Assemble educators and staff will encourage students to think about what they want to express, plan and create a project, and share the results."
